Music is a gift of God and is to be used in the praise and service of the Gospel. Because of this, music plays a key role in our congregation's worship life. Through it the Word is proclaimed, the people of God are served, and the name of the Lord is praised.
The music of the liturgy centers our focus on “Christ for us”, repeating back to Him what He has already proclaimed to us. In addition, we sing these truths to each other in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs so that the whole congregation might be edified and built up in the saving faith of Jesus Christ. The music program of Our Savior Evangelical Church and School seeks to serve the church in this way. There are many opportunities for you to put your love of music into service of the Lord and His people. Please consider joining us! Below are the opportunities available to you at Our Savior.
Cantate (Adult Choir)
This group is the primary choir of the church and participates in worship roughly twice a month and for major festivals and feast days of the church year. This group is open to all members of the church high school age or older and is always ready to welcome new faces (singers who are younger than high school and wish to join should speak with Kantor Machemer). Singers only need to love music and be able to attend regularly to particpate!
Rehearsals:
Thursdays, 7:00-8:30pm, in the Balcony
September through May
Brass Ensemble
This group adorns our feast and festival services throughout the year by providing festival settings of the liturgy and hymns as well as other special music. The Brass rehearses between the 8:30 and 11:00 services on Sunday mornings a few weeks before they are scheduled to play. This group is open to anyone who plays a brass instrument high school age and older (younger brass players who wish to join should speak with Kantor Machemer.) Consider playing with us!
Rehearsals:
(specific dates are announced)
Sundays, 10:00-10:45am, in the Balcony or triangle room
September through May
Cantors and instrumentalists / small ensembles
Many opportunities arise during the year, particularly during the summer months, for individuals or small groups to sing and play for worship. These musicians typically serve in the service by accompanying the hymns, liturgy and psalms. In addition, special music can be provided in the forms of solos, duets, trios or small ensembles. This opportunity is available to those musicians who participate in the above groups as well as those whose situations do not allow regular group participation. It is an excellent way for you to use your talents. Whether you sing, play piano, or any type of instrument– there is an opportunity for you!
