Music at Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran School

Music is a gift of God and is to be used in the praise and service of the Gospel. Because of this, music plays a key role in our congregation's worship life. Through it the Word is proclaimed, the people of God are served, and the name of the Lord is praised.

The music of the liturgy centers our focus on “Christ for us”, repeating back to Him what He has already proclaimed to us. In addition, we sing these truths to each other in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs so that the whole congregation might be edified and built up in the saving faith of Jesus Christ. The music program of Our Savior Evangelical Church and School seeks to serve the church in this way. There are many opportunities for you to put your love of music into service of the Lord and His people. Please consider joining us! Below are the opportunities available to you at Our Savior.

Choristers

This choir is an elective group at Our Savior and is open to all students enrolled in grades 3 through 8. The group rehearses twice a week during the school day for 40 minutes. The Choristers provide music for worship on a monthly basis, participate annually in the Lutheran Schools Music Festival and also sing for other special events throughout the school year.

These lessons are held after school on Wednesdays during the school year in either a one-on-one format with student and teacher or in duets or trios with the teacher. As students progress, opportunities to play for worship and other school events are made available. Contact Mrs. Machemer via the school office for more details.

General Music

General music classes are taught to every student at Our Savior Lutheran School. These classes focus on teaching students essential musical concepts and skills and are opportunities for them to refine their instrumental and singing abilities. Instruction also provides a foundation for students to understand music's various historical, cultural, theological and analytical scopes. The goal of these classes are to raise up students who can “do” music as well as understand it from a variety of angles.
