TrebleClefAt Our Savior, students engage in music daily. Emphasis is given to the art of singing so that the young Christian learns to participate in the devotional richness of the Church’s liturgy and hymnody. Students participate in school choirs that provide music for Divine Services. Students also have opportunities to participate in band and handbell ensembles. Finally, students learn about the elements of music and are introduced to a variety of musical masterpieces through the ages.

Early Elementary Music — Four-year-old Preschool-Grade 1
During class time, youngsters engage in learning the fundamentals of music through singing. Students learn music for special school events such as the Children’s Christmas
Service, Fine Arts Night, and Grandparents’ Day. The repertoire includes Christian hymns and folk songs.

Primary Choristers — Grades 2 and 3
Primary Choristers rehearse twice weekly during school hours and occasionally provide music for the Divine Service and school events. Primary Choristers is primarily a training
choir in which, through demonstration and repetition, singers learn techniques and develop habits that lead to beautiful singing, and basic musicianship, and prepare them
for more advanced singing in the later grades.

Junior Choristers — Grades 4 and 5
Junior Choristers rehearse twice weekly during school hours and provide music for the Divine Service about once a month, as well as a few school events throughout the school
year. Junior Choristers learn and practice proper vocal technique, basic note-reading skills, simple part-singing, and fundamentals of musicianship

Choristers — Grades 6 through 8
Choristers rehearse twice weekly during school hours and provide music for the Divine Service about once a month. The choir also participates annually in the Lutheran Schools
Music Festival, as well as other school events throughout the school year. Choristers continue to practice and refine techniques of beautiful singing- especially part-singing,
broaden awareness of elements of musicianship, and grow in their understanding of Lutheran worship.

Classroom Music — Grades 1 through 4
Classroom music classes aim to bring students along in their understanding of the elements of music and to appreciate how various masters have applied those elements to
create classic masterpieces. Students learn essential musical concepts through instruction that includes singing, playing or moving activities, and by listening to examples of
composers’ skillful application of those concepts in classic masterpieces.
